Miles Jones
Miles Jones (born around 2001) was the older son of Candy and Micah Jones and the brother of Noah. He met Elliot Landry around 2006–2007. Elliot became part of the Jones family’s daily household life after Candy began regularly caring for him in the Montgomery, Alabama area in 2008.
Early Life and Family
Miles was approximately five when he first met three-year-old Elliot and approximately seven when five-year-old Elliot entered the Jones family’s daily life. He and Noah learned to accommodate Elliot’s communication, sensory, and physical needs without treating him as separate from the family. Childhood acts of care included giving Elliot a stuffed dinosaur, offering him a pillow, and adding blankets when he was cold or uncomfortable.
Elliot’s accelerated growth was visibly apparent by preschool. Miles therefore knew him throughout childhood as a boy whose unusual size and growth were already noticeable, years before Elliot received a pituitary gigantism diagnosis at fifteen.
Relationship with Elliot Landry
Main article: Elliot Landry and Miles Jones
Miles and Elliot’s childhood friendship developed into chosen brotherhood. Miles was a high-school sophomore when Elliot began high school and supported him when their schedules allowed. He and Noah were protective of Elliot without being his only sources of peer support.
During a McDonald’s visit after back-to-school shopping, Miles defended Elliot when other teenagers mocked his size and food order. He explained that Elliot was fifteen, autistic, and managing a medical condition, then helped him continue his meal without further confrontation.
During Elliot’s severe 2020 COVID-19 illness, Miles helped the Jones family dress and transport him to the hospital. After Elliot was admitted, Miles made hand-drawn flyers that included Elliot’s name, the hospital address, and requests for cards, letters, and well-wishes. He posted them at grocery stores, community centers, telephone poles, and churches. Hundreds of cards and letters reached the hospital, where nurses displayed them in Elliot’s room and read them aloud when his sedation was lightened. Miles later visited after Elliot was extubated; Elliot remained awake with him for nearly an hour before asking whether he could sleep.
Family Relationships
Candy and Micah raised Miles and Noah in the Montgomery area and treated Elliot as another son. Miles’s protection of Elliot developed within that shared family structure. Noah participated alongside Miles in Elliot’s everyday support, while the McDonald’s confrontation was Miles’s direct experience.
